Plot: Seaman Tommy Knowlton (Montgomery) is on leave in Italy. He falls in love with Joan Standish (Evans). Unfortunately, Joan is both married and the daughter of his commander, TJ Toler (Huston). Back on the boat, the tension between Knowlton and Toler grows because of the situation.

Plot: Julie Bell (Evans) is an ex-pat living in Paris. She beings to fall for Pat Wells (Young), a nice guy who doesn’t seem to have much of a future. She thinks she’d be better off marrying Sam Colt (Kruger), a war correspondent. Colt goes off the China to cover a story, and Julie remains in Paris to be a fashion reporter.
